Safety

We Are Unyielding in Our Commitment to Safety.

Ghilotti Construction Company (GCC) is unyielding in our commitment to safety. Our highest priority is ensuring that everyone who steps foot on a GCC work site goes home safely to their loved ones at the end of the day.

We’re known for our strong safety culture and for maintaining the industry’s highest standards of safety at all our job sites. We achieve safety excellence through rigorous training, meticulous attention to detail, strict adherence to our comprehensive Safety Program and by making safety part of everyone’s job.

Executive Oversight

Safety is so important to us that our company’s president has oversight for all things safety at GCC.

Safety is so important to us that our company’s president has oversight for all things safety at GCC. In the field, we entrust our highly respected foremen with the important responsibility for carrying out all the onsite requirements of our Safety Program, driving its implementation and leading by example.

Meticulous Planning

Our daily goal is zero harm.

Our daily goal is zero harm. An important way we achieve this goal is by requiring all our foremen to complete a written Daily Task Plan specific to their job site. Each foreman identifies and evaluates all activities and hazards anticipated for their project that day and the procedures that must be followed to ensure all personnel are properly protected. In most cases, our procedures are more stringent than basic OSHA standards.

Rigorous Training

All our new hires must complete GCC’s safety orientation prior to their start date.

All our new hires must complete GCC’s safety orientation prior to their start date. Safety orientation is where they learn about our safety commitment and goals, Safety Program, construction site hazards and their role in ensuring a safe work environment. A “Tailgate” training session to discuss project-related safety issues is held weekly at each job site. Specific foremen are also required to complete a “Competent Person” class relevant to their role and be current in their First Aid/CPR certification. Additional training is coordinated for specific subjects, such as forklifts, “HAZWOPER”, asbestos pipe removal, respirators and more.

Thorough Incident Investigation

Incident investigation is a crucial component of our Safety Program.

Incident investigation is a crucial component of our Safety Program. All incidents are thoroughly investigated, and the findings are shared with GCC’s Safety Committee. The Safety Committee evaluates the findings and determines what procedural changes or other changes must be made to prevent the same incident or a similar incident from happening in the future.

Comprehensive Job Site Assessments

To maintain the integrity and effectiveness of GCC’s Safety Program.

To maintain the integrity and effectiveness of GCC’s Safety Program, our foremen, superintendents, safety director and safety coordinator regularly walk our job sites to proactively identify and mitigate safety issues, assess compliance with our established procedures and document their findings. Our Safety Committee and superintendents meet monthly to review our company's safety metrics and discuss opportunities for improvement, and to share lessons learned and best practices—all of which can be used to continuously improve our Safety Program.
